SuJu members Siwon and Donghae to star in Taiwanese drama
It has been confirmed that Super Junior’s Siwon and Donghae will be starring in the upcoming Taiwanese idol drama, “Extravagant Challenge.”
The producers have reportedly had a hard time earlier in picking the male leads, even considering actors Jerry Yan and Wu Chun. And so, it was a plus factor that Siwon and Donghae have already established themselves in the Taiwanese entertainment industry, having once filmed and guested in Taiwanese leading actress Ariel Lin’s MV for the ballad “Fireflies.” It is thus no wonder that Ariel Lin’s management company was able to pull strings and bring in both Siwon and Donghae to take the lead roles.
“Extravagant Challenge” is an adaptation of a Japanese manga ‘Skip Beat!,’ with the male protagonists being portrayed by the SuJu members and the female protagonist portrayed by Ariel Lin. Here’s the plot summary:
Kyoko followed her true love and childhood friend Sho to Tokyo so she could help him reach his dream of becoming an idol. She cleans, cooks, works three jobs and does nothing for herself because she loves him so much, but gets nothing in return. Still, she remains by his side. But then one day she goes unannounced to his agency with a delivery, and overhears him talking about her; he reveals to his manager that he only took her with him as a maid, and that he doesn’t care for her at all. Upon hearing this, Kyoko doesn’t just sit around and cry. She cuts and dyes her hair, changes her clothes and attitude and thus begins her journey to join showbiz and have her revenge against Sho.
The collaboration of three Asian countries (China, Japan, and Korea) in the making of this drama is no small feat. Filming is said to begin in March of next year (2011). A lot of audiences are worried because Siwon and Donghae do not understand Chinese. However, Siwon has had experience with dubbing while filming the Hong Kong historical-action-war-drama, “A Battle of Wits.”
